8 Lifechanging Truths

The video below is such a great amount of information that can absolutely put you on a healthier, happier, life. The video is presented by someone who reports to be a Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

Click HERE or the picture below for the link to the YouTube video. See below the video for the talking points but it's much better to listen to this short video. While I think everything in this video is helpful, I have not vetted this person's whole catalogue. We also never need to purchase information - it's all available for free from the internet.

  1. "There is no space for me in this world unless I make one. Where do you fit in as a unique individual?" Only you have the ability to find a space for you.

  2. "An unexciting life in a healthy mind and body feels better than an exciting life in an unhealthy mind and body... Your health is the gatekeeper of every experience you'll ever have." Comparison to the way it Appears others live, is misery.

  3. "This is a matter of life and death, and I have to treat it that way." "We're talking about a chronic health condition" when we're talking about mental health. "Let's say you have diabetes, would you tell yourself, you know what, my liver just needs to toughen up. I'm not going to take my insulin. I'm not going to watch what I eat... My body is just going to have to adapt... I'm pretty sure you'd die."

  4. "Having no peer group is better than having an unhealthy peer group." It's also not easy to curate your social network to have only people who are optimal for us. "Having a peer group that pulls you away from your goals and your values and the person you want to be is worse than having nobody."

  5. "Envy is ignorance." Trying to copy others is a fools game that makes you miserable. Filters, photoshop, rental cars portrayed as their own, etc - we don't know the whole actuality of their life. "You're comparing reality to a fantasy."

  6. "It's incredibly important to recognize when advice is impractical to you, even if that advice is scientific." (my addition:) The best advice can be taken and tailored to your specific needs and situation. Need sunlight but can't get it - how do we figure out a way to do that or what other behaviors do we need to increase to compensate from not having it?

  7. "If you try to do everything, you end up being bad at everything." (my addition:) It depends on what you're applying that to. If you want to 100% be great at a thing, then you won't be able to do that with all the things. If you want to sample experiences, that's perfectly valid.

  8. "You never know when you'll be doing something for the last time, and you never really know how much you will miss it when it's gone." Every meal or snack you eat - is it worth being your last meal? Have it, and be in the moment of enjoying it. Every task you have to, or want to, do - how do you find joy in it and be in the now?

Thank you for being alive in tough times, and I hope you find many instances of pleasure in your day.
