If we don't allow ourselves time to feel and process our feelings then they Will be felt - usually when we're already exhausted and at an even worse emotional place. Feel them for as long as you need; give them the respect they deserve as being part of your natural process; ignore people who say anything like "get over it."
If you're being overwhelmed with your emotions and cannot function, then you may need to think of healthy ways to reframe, refocus, and be kind to yourself and others, even if it's just for a little bit. We need to find some balance so that we don't become lost while we try to figure out who we are now or who and where we want to be. We also need that balance so we have the energy to survive grieving, depression, anxiety, or any other overwhelming experiences.
For those having a difficult time with someone else's emotions or situation - find your quiet. Be there for that person in-person or via whatever framework you have available. Don't make them think more or have to decide more or deal with more - including your reactions. Get to them if they need you and be prepared to give them space when they need that too. Bring them their favorite drink and leave it on their doorstep with a text that it's there. Send a reminder to hydrate or get a bite to eat. Pray for them if that's your thing. Keep it short because even "help" can be too much to bear.
In other words - if people are going through some difficult stuff - don't pressure them to do or be more. Keep it simple and supportive.
