Mindfulness is a Practice of Stopping, Paying attention, Becoming aware of present moment realities, & Not judging whatever is happening as good or bad. By practicing this, we are more easily able to create an environment of observing and not reacting, enable ourselves to be with distress safely until its power fails, and increasingly feel steady stability in ourselves. And this Is a practice. This is one of the most powerful tools at your disposal if you stick with the practice and allow the reconditioning of your body and mind to happen. There are so many little ways we can begin practicing mindfulness. Here are just a few:

*pay close attention to your breath. Notice it from the beginning of the inhale to the end of the exhale, and start over again.

*Notice the things around you. What can you hear, smell, taste, touch, see? Bonus-pick one thing and safely notice all of its characteristics.

*Take a short very slow mindful walk around your area. 5-10 steps will do. What does it feel like to move your body? What does your balance feel like? What do you notice as you turn around slowly and start again?

*Beginners mind. So often we're caught up in what we know about a thing and forget to look with fresh eyes or see how it's changed or different. Just start again and see what you notice that's different.
