Submission Standards for Coven Press & NEOk Library.

Please Note:

  • We accept typed & handwritten zines in even-page formats, the page number guide and blank zine template is free to download in Coven Press' shop

  • Please make one submission per zine, we will reply as soon as our availability allows and this may take several days.

  • All of our zines are available for free upon request as well as being listed in our Press Shop - by submitting your zine you agree to both forms of distribution, we do not exclusively sell any zines.

  • Artists will be compensated $3 per hardcopy sold and $2 for each PDF copy, Paid out on the 15th and 30th of the month.

Standards

  1. Please put all Submissions in our even-page format (free templates in the Coven Press shop, video tutorial here).

  2. Make your original on white paper in black & white for maximum contrast + cleanest printout. NEOkla can do color zines as well.

  3. Zine must be legible after printing, be sure to scan on the highest resolution you can, and do some test prints to make sure everything is in order.

  4. Zine must be original material, please cite all non-original elements - zines that violate this rule could be subject to removal (upon request by the copywrite holder: be aware of the risk).

  5. The scan of your zine must print out and fold into proper page order without major cutoffs after printout (see tips and tricks).

  6. Please cover your subject thoroughly! Think manual more than pamphlet.

  7. Please be prepared to receive feedback and re-submit your zine: sometimes they need formatting or content re-working before we can list them.

  8. We Reserve the right to refuse any listing for any reason including those not listed.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you don’t have a scanner, you can download a scanner app for your phone and create the digital file that way.

  • You can white out the “hotdog fold” line for cleaner looking pages (it can be hard to get that to align between scans).

  • Print our shop template “fit to paper” for the best results when submitted.

  • We only print in greyscale, best results tend to be from black and white originals. (NEOk library can print in color.)

  • Good info > Visual appeal, but the visuals do help attract and and engage people.

  • People tend to choose zines with titles that clearly describe their contents, keep that in mind.

  • Best to leave 1/16” margin around the single sheet’s edge so you don’t get cutoffs in the scan.

  • Sketch it out a few times before reaching your final version for best results.

  • If you’re writing small, please write clearly.
